Here are all the important ERP and Odoo news from June that you shouldn't miss.

News from Odoo headquarters

Official updates and announcements from Odoo headquarters, Odoo employees, and Odoo founder Fabien Pinckaers.

Odoo's research team publishes new insights

The Odoo R&D team has been busy sharing insights into what’s coming our way. Here’s everything we’ve learned about Odoo 20 this week.

Unified access control arrives in Odoo 20

Odoo combines ACLs and record rules into a single permission model. The new design ensures that adding a user role can only expand access, never reduce it, and installing a new module will not override existing security configurations. For organizations with complex hierarchies, this eliminates the risk of conflicting security policies that could disrupt existing workflows or cause accidental data locks during system updates. Migration scripts are included in the release.

Commissions from sales on paid amounts arriving in Odoo 19.4

The new commission method will calculate earnings based on the amounts paid on invoices, regardless of due dates. Confirmed by Fabrice Henrion from Odoo's R&D team for version 19.4, this feature is also compatible with POS when configured to generate invoices with the appropriate vendor.

Native video and audio player embedded in Odoo views

Odoo's R&D team has introduced a media player widget that displays directly within Odoo. Video and audio files will play within the record, with a transcript displayed alongside the playback.

New column element for Odoo list views

A new XML element is introduced in the list view architecture, allowing developers to group multiple fields into a single complex cell. It supports label, width setting, and Python expression for controlling column visibility.

Calendar and activity schedule updates arrive in Odoo 20

Odoo Calendar module receives several enhancements:

  • A conflict warning will appear when creating an event at a time when a participant is already booked
  • The mini calendar will display the number of undefined activities on days with scheduled items
  • Activity pop-up windows will also include clickable links to related documents.

Odoo introduces a new partner program for user referrals.

Odoo has launched an affiliate program that allows non-Odoo partners to refer new users in exchange for a commission.

The setup is simple:

  • Users share a referral link and earn 10% of the subscription revenue from the new customer in the first 12 months.
  • Referred potential customers have 31 days to click on the sign-up link.
  • Payouts are held for 90 days after the payment is approved to account for fraud and returns.

The program is open to three groups: existing Odoo users, content creators with business-oriented audiences, and industry associations.

Currently, Odoo has not set an upper limit on earnings. The new program also provides a commission calculator that estimates potential income based on audience size and conversion rates.

Core applications go completely offline.

Internet issues will not be a problem in Odoo 20. The upcoming version introduces full offline support for core applications like Finance, Inventory, and Manufacturing. You will be able to create, edit, and archive records completely offline, and everything will sync when you are back in range.

Claude AI joins Odoo Chat.

To further enhance things, Anthropic's Claude AI is directly integrated into Odoo Chat, natively including the popular assistant in your daily workflow as part of the Odoo 20 release.

The original line of code counter has been added in Odoo 20.

The native tool for tracking lines of code (LoC) is coming to Odoo. A recent announcement from the research and development team revealed a new feature designed to help developers and administrators quantify custom modifications within their databases.

The update introduces a structured backend framework for systematically isolating custom code from the standard core of the ecosystem.

What to expect:

  • Tracking customizations: Immediately scan your database to locate and count the exact lines of code added through custom development
  • Simplified migration scope determination: Partners and clients can easily assess the upgrade workload by accurately measuring the extent of non-standard code
  • Managing technical debt: Provides clear visibility into database changes, making it much easier to maintain clean code and compliance with Odoo standards.
